On the first day of the new year, the Dinghai Ancient City in Dinghai district, Zhoushan, Zhejiang province buzzed with excitement as it hosted a vibrant folk festival to ring in the new year.

Fifteen parade formations set off from the East Gate, weaving through the ancient city. The vibrant dragon dance, "flea dance" – celebrated by local fishermen after a good season, and traditional lantern dance were just some of the captivating performances.

The narrow streets of the ancient city were lined with enthusiastic crowds, creating a festive atmosphere. Four designated viewing spots were set up for people to enjoy the performances.

In the evening, a spectacular light show illuminated the ancient city walls of the East Gate. This show blended history with modernity and tradition with innovation and highlighted historical stories and figures. It was followed by a dazzling folk performance called datiehua, which involves spraying molten iron, captivated the audience.

This folk festival was a hit just like in 2023. Dinghai will continue to host various cultural events for preserving its historical heritage that exhibit its cultural and developmental confidence.
