The Zhoushan meteorological bureau issued a coastal gale warning on Aug 20 that strong winds, reaching 9 to 10 on the Beaufort scale, are expected from today afternoon through tomorrow night due to the influence of Typhoon Jongdari. All counties in Zhoushan have raised the yellow alert for high winds.
As a precaution, over 2,200 fishing boats have been called back to harbor. The maritime safety administration activated a Level IV typhoon emergency response on Aug 19. Recreational fishing boats have stopped operations, and all small to medium-sized boats are required to return by tomorrow evening.
Several island ferry services have also been suspended. Strong winds and sporadic showers are forecast for the next two days, with inter-island traffic possibly coming to a halt.
