The Future Science Prize revealed its winners on Aug 16, with Zhoushan-born scientist Sun Binyong receiving the prestigious Mathematics and Computer Science Award. The announcement took place during a press conference held simultaneously in Beijing and Hong Kong.
Sun, born in 1976 in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province, and a PhD graduate of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, is a professor at Zhejiang University's Institute of Advanced Study in Mathematics. He has made significant contributions to the representation theory of Lie groups, particularly in solving long-standing mathematical problems related to group theory and number theory.
Established in 2016, the Future Science Prize recognizes outstanding scientific achievements in the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. It recognizes excellence in life sciences, physical sciences, and mathematics & computer science, with a prize of 7.2 million yuan ($1 million) for each category.
