Construction recently began on a marine and fisheries law enforcement support base in Aoshan, Zhoushan.
With a total investment of about 55 million yuan ($7.7 million), the project covers an area of over 2,100 square meters and will include four docks, with one fixed dock for 1,000-ton vessels and three floating docks for 500-ton vessels, capable of simultaneously berthing six enforcement boats.
Additionally, an impound lot for up to 20 illegal fishing vessels will be built on the east side of the docks. Supporting facilities such as warning and education management rooms for violators and a security room will also be built. The entire base is expected to be completed by July 2026.
The city, with around 5,000 fishing vessels, is a major fishing hub. Zhoushan Fishing Ground, the largest in China, is a traditional fishing area for fishermen from Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Fujian, and Shanghai.
According to an insider from the Zhoushan marine economic development bureau, this new base will provide enhanced infrastructure for the berthing, supply, training, and assembly of marine enforcement vessels. This will improve the city's ability to promptly address illegal maritime activities and fishing violations.
