The shipbuilding and marine engineering industry in Putuo district, Zhoushan, Zhejiang province got off to a strong start with an output value of 4.24 billion yuan ($587.66 million) in the first quarter of this year, a year-on-year increase of 44 percent, according to authorities.

The robust performance could be largely attributed to a series of measures implemented by local authorities, including promoting the transformation and upgrading of the shipbuilding industry, as well as establishing mechanisms to support the growth of high-tech shipbuilding enterprises.

Authorities have also rolled out stimuli to encourage major shipbuilding companies to boost their investment in research and development, achieve significant technological advancements, and facilitate the commercialization of research breakthroughs.

The district is also collaborating with Zhejiang Ocean University to develop green fishing vessel repair standards, a crucial step towards the establishment of a demonstration base for eco-friendly fishing vessel repairs.

In addition, Putuo is committed to advancing the utilization of cutting-edge safety production equipment, environmentally friendly technologies, and intelligent transformation tools within ship enterprises, fostering a sustainable and innovative ecosystem within the industry.
