Zhoushan in Zhejiang province will invest 2.48 billion yuan ($343.23 million) in 112 projects in an effort to improve its natural environment, according to a local media report on May 8.
A primary focus of this initiative is the comprehensive upgrading of urban sewage pipe networks. This includes the implementation of 36 projects to bolster sewage treatment facilities, including expanding treatment plants, constructing new sewage pipe networks, and upgrading stormwater and sewage networks.
Zhoushan is set to implement improvements spanning 11 kilometers for small and medium-sized river systems and establish 11 new surface water automatic monitoring stations to improve water quality.
Authorities will also channel more resources into preventing and controlling pollution in nearshore marine areas, with a strong emphasis on addressing agricultural and rural pollution. This will involve the construction and refurbishment of 21 rural domestic sewage treatment facilities.
In addition, flood prevention and drainage enhancement remain pivotal areas of focus for the year.
