Zhoushan in Zhejiang province witnessed a remarkable surge in its tourism sector during the just-concluded May Day holiday, welcoming 1.87 million tourists, an uptick of 38.8 percent year-on-year, according to authorities.
Putuo Mountain and Zhujiajian scenic spots received a combined 440,000 tourists, a year-on-year increase of 3.8 percent.
Zhang Hui, deputy director of the Zhoushan bureau of culture, radio, television, tourism, and sports, noted that staff members took proactive measures to address traffic and travel service issues, ensuring a better experience for tourists.
Zhang added that authorities mobilized over 1,500 volunteers at key scenic spots and transportation hubs to assist visitors with inquiries and traffic guidance, while also providing rain gear to visitors.
Zhoushan also hosted 182 activities including music festivals, exhibitions, and football competitions during the holiday.
