Zhoushan Port handles 171m tons of cargo in Q1

Zhoushan Port in East China's Zhejiang province dealt with 171 million metric tons of cargo in the first quarter of this year, a year-on-year increase of 16.1 percent, according to data from the city's statistics bureau.

The throughput of iron ore, oil and gas, coal, and bulk commodities saw a strong recovery over the period, with Shulanghu terminal handling 21 million tons of iron ore, up 10 percent year-on-year.

Jintang port area opened five new shipping lines this year, and the container throughput in Zhoushan increased 55.8 percent year-on-year from January to March.

As of the end of March, the Zhoushan Port had opened 34 container shipping lines to countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.

Authorities also expanded river-and-sea coordinated transport capacity, adding seven vessels for such transport in the first three months of 2023.

In addition, authorities welcomed 31 marine service enterprises over the period, with the port currently home to 1,386 such enterprises.

The city aims to cultivate 10 little giant enterprises engaged in the transportation of oil products, attract 150 marine service enterprises, and handle 650 million tons of cargo this year, said local authorities.
