The Shulanghu ore transfer terminal at Zhoushan Port in East China's Zhejiang province handled 17.5 million metric tons of bonded mixed ore in 2021, ranking first in the country, statistics from local customs show.

Mixed ore is an important raw material for steel production and some Chinese steel producers are not capable of blending iron ore themselves. As such, some international mining giants like Brazilian company Vale SA have been cooperating with local ports to provide ore blending services.

Shulanghu transfer terminal is the largest offshore iron ore transfer base in China. As of Dec 8, 2021, the terminal handled more than 33 metric tons of iron ore, achieving its annual target 23 days ahead of schedule.

In addition, the transfer terminal received 186 international ships last year, including 57 400,000-ton ships, while its cargo throughput reached 71.15 million tons.
