Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province has been making efforts to construct four major island parks in the province.

Over the past three years, Zhejiang has listed the construction of 10 island parks as one of its major tasks. In 2019, the province published the construction plan for island parks, four of which are located in Zhoushan – Dinghai District Island Park, Putuo District Island Park, Daishan County Island Park, and Shengsi County Island Park.

Statistics show that Dinghai district received 10.32 million tourists and generated 10.57 billion yuan ($1.64 billion) in tourism revenue last year. In the first eight months of this year, Dinghai invested 1.4 billion yuan in island park construction, completing 76.74 percent of its annual target.

Putuo district has maintained stable development in all-for-one tourism as it has received approval to be designated as a 3A-level scenic district and has built six 3A-level scenic towns. Last year, the added value of the tourism industry in Putuo totaled 3.6 billion yuan, accounting for 8.18 percent of the total GDP.

Daishan county received more than 8 million tourists and generated 11.46 billion yuan in tourism revenue in 2020. In the first nine months of this year, the county has invested 1.76 billion yuan in tourism projects, completing 78.5 percent of its annual target.

Shengsi county welcomed 7.42 million tourists and generated 10.61 billion yuan in tourism revenue last year. The county plans to invest 13.88 billion yuan in 41 projects to construct the island park, with construction on 10 of the projects having been completed.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Zhoushan plans to construct eight to 10 theme islands.
