Shengsi county in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, was recently formally recognized as a 4A-level scenic county by the Zhejiang Department of Culture and Tourism, local media reported on Jan 17.

The Shengsi county scenic area includes Caiyuan town and 10-Mile Golden Beach town, with four residential communities and three fishing villages.

Since the county was shortlisted for 4A-level status in 2019, it has tapped its tourism resources, including beaches, seafood and sea views, to the utmost extent, leveraging its popular Jihu and Nanchangtu sand and bathing beaches.

In 2020, Shengsi county scenic area received more than 4.61 million visitors and generated 3.34 billion yuan ($514.92 million) in tourism revenue, both in line with the previous year.

In addition, Huaniao Island in Shengsi was recently upgraded to a national 4A-level scenic spot, with 5A being the highest classification. It follows the formal recognition of five village scenic areas in Wulong town, Shengsi -- Tian'ao, Huangsha, Biaojiao, Huicheng and Huanglong villages -- at the national 4A-level in 2019.
