Zhoushan Hospital in East China's Zhejiang province recently delivered its first baby of African descent, local media reported on July 11.

Zhoushan Hospital is considered to be among the best general hospitals in the city.

Mary, aged 27, moved from Kenya with her husband one year ago for business purposes. The baby is their first child.

"Everything is perfect!" said the couple after the delivery, expressing gratitude to the hospital for finding them nurses who can speak English and for ensuring that everything went smoothly.

As Zhoushan has been further opening its doors to the outside world in recent years, more and more foreigners are coming to the city to study, work and live.

Statistics from the city's exit and entry administration show that as of September 2018, there were 576 expats living in Zhoushan, including 195 foreign students, 135 family visitors and 246 foreign businessmen. In addition, 969 foreign sailors were introduced to the city's pelagic fishery industry.
