Zhejiang authorities in charge of air pollution prevention and control recently announced the province's first batch of fresh air demonstration zones, among which there are two cities, Zhoushan and Lishui, and 16 counties, including Zhoushan's Daishan and Shengsi counties. 

The fresh air demonstration zone is selected annually from the province's cities at or above the county level based on their air qualities, achievements in air pollution control and frequency of major air pollution events.

Around 20 percent of the province's cities at or above the county level will be selected every year.

Zhoushan, an island city in the province, is famous for its beautiful natural scenery and clean air. It ranked first among other cities in Zhejiang, and third in the whole country in air quality last year.

It has also been confirmed through appraisal of the provincial authorities as having excellent an ecological environment for nine consecutive years.
