The first domestic-made 500-kilovolt submarine cable reached Dapengshan Island, Zhoushan, on Nov 20, after a six day operation laying the cable under the East China Sea between the city and Zhenhai district, Ningbo, Zhejiang province.
The cable, developed by the State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Co and related national research institutes and cable manufacturers, is also the world's first 500-kilovolt cross-linked polyethylene insulated submarine cable.
To ensure the smooth installation of the cable, the State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Co built a 5,000-metric-ton submarine cable construction ship Qi Fan 9, the first of its kind in China, and conducted multiple trial voyages before the cable installation.
As part of the city's 500-kilovolt power transmission project, the successfully laid 17-kilometer cable marks that the project has entered a critical stage.
The project, designed to build a 500kv power transmission channel between the city and Ningbo, will help strengthen the power supply for the development of Zhoushan Archipelago New Area and contribute to the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative when entering operations.
