Shaoxing's own Song Siji delivered a stunning performance at the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation Europe Cup 2025/2026, held in Lillehammer, Norway. The Shengzhou-born athlete Song claimed first place with a combined two-run time of 1 minute and 45.49 seconds, while teammate Liang Yuxin finished third at 1 minute 46.08 seconds, securing one gold and one bronze for China.
Bobsleigh is an extreme sport where speed, precision, and control can determine results down to the millisecond. On Lillehammer's cold, dry track, Song maintained top-level performance across both runs, showcasing her solid technique and composed mindset.
Born in 2000, Song first gained major experience at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics as a trial athlete. She became national champion in 2023, marking her rise from newcomer to top domestic contender. In 2024, she placed fourth at the Europe Cup in Norway, signaling her growing presence on the international stage.
Song's victory represents a key milestone in her career and reflects the steady progress of China's bobsleigh program. Founded in 2015, the national team has developed rapidly over the years, from Geng Wenqiang's Olympic debut in Pyeongchang in 2018 to Yan Wengang's bronze medal at Beijing in 2022, and now to rising athletes competing for international medals.
With the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 approaching, every World Cup and Europe Cup point is crucial. Song's gold contributes valuable Olympic points for China and strengthens her bid for upcoming Olympic qualification.
