Shangyu district unveiled a new plan to develop its pet economy at a national innovation event held in Shaoxing on Nov 30. The blueprint outlines goals for 2026 to 2030 and positions the district as a model area for pet-friendly urban development in China and a leading provider of premium pet wellness services in the Yangtze River Delta.
The district's blueprint sets targets to build a comprehensive industrial park integrating research, manufacturing, exhibitions, and services. It also aims to develop at least three well-known domestic or international pet brands and to attract more than five major companies from the pet food, smart products, or pet healthcare sectors.
The industrial park will focus on fashion, health, and smart manufacturing, offering an integrated platform that connects companies with research institutes and end users.
The district plans to create a consumption and service belt that integrates retail, care services, and experience-based activities, boosting new drivers of urban consumption. It will also utilize natural and cultural assets in southern Shangyu to develop a leisure and wellness belt for pets and their owners, forming the first full-lifecycle pet care ecosystem in the Yangtze River Delta. Townships and subdistricts will work together to build complementary growth zones for the pet economy.
During the event, Shangyu District Ecological Alliance for the Development of Pet Economy was launched. Several high-quality projects, including a global pet medical R&D and production center, signed agreements to establish themselves in the district. Additionally, the opening of a new training institute for pet-industry entrepreneurs marked the full rollout of Shangyu's systematic efforts to expand the sector.
