Intl women's chess open underway in Shaoxing

The Belt and Road China International Women's Chess Open 2024 began in Yuecheng district, Shaoxing, on July 24. The event features 32 top female players from nine countries, including China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan.
The tournament consists of nine rounds over 10 days. High-level female chess players from around the world will compete for the $40,000 championship prize in Yuecheng district.
Yuecheng has promoted chess through hosting international tournaments, nurturing nearly 200 well-known players and increasing its global presence in the chess community.
An authority with the Yuecheng district education and sports bureau said that they plan to continue enhancing the quality of the tournament and aim to establish the Belt and Road International Women's Chess Open as a prominent and influential event.
