Innovative Longquan celadon shines at international exhibition
The 2024 "Celadon Virtuous" Longquan Celadon International Artist-in-Residence Project and International Celadon Art Exhibition kicked off at the Wang'ou Ceramic Art Avenue Art Gallery in Longquan, a county-level city in Lishui, Zhejiang province, on Dec 28.
To cultivate a diverse artistic environment, the Wang'ou Taoxichuan International Studio launched an international artist-in-residence project earlier this year. The project attracted over 100 domestic and international artists eager to explore and experience the art of the Longquan celadon.

The exhibition runs to March 28, 2025. It features 138 pieces or sets of works created by 27 resident artists over eight months. Using the Longquan celadon as their medium, they embarked on a journey of innovation, exploring new artistic expressions and perspectives.
Among the exhibits, the unique styles of French artist couple Daphne Corregan and Gilles Suiffren have captured the attention of many. Corregan explained that the differences in glazes and materials posed challenges. However, after studying numerous Longquan celadon pieces and talking to other artists, they found inspiration and completed their works.
Wan Liya, a curator of the exhibition and a representative of the International Academy of Ceramics in China, noted that their works were distinctly individualistic yet diverse – and this variety enhanced the visual impact and unique presentation of Longquan celadon elements.
