The Rice-fish Symbiosis System of Qingtian county in Lishui, Zhejiang, was currently the lone selection in the province as an excellent case of the "UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration".

Commencing in 2021, the "UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration" is a rallying call for the protection and revival of ecosystems all around the world.

The Qingtian rice-fish symbiosis system has a history of more than 1,300 years. In 2005, it was the first in China to be recognized as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

In recent years, the system has transformed its traditional model into a digital model laying equal stress on planting and breeding, increasing average benefits tenfold.

In 2023, the rice-fish symbiotic system covered an area of 65,400 mu (4,360 hectares) in Qingtian county, and the total output value of the rice-fish industry reached 304 million yuan ($42.00 million), a year-on-year increase of 8.57 percent.
