A new species of sawfly has been named after Qingyuan county in Lishui, Zhejiang province, where it was discovered.

The female specimen, which is black and has white fore and middle legs, was found on May 3 in Baishanzu National Park and identified as a new member of the macrophya genus. It was named Macrophya Qingyuanica by a research team led by Li Jianze.

The team's findings were published in Entomotaxonomia, a Chinese entomology journal.

Qingyuan county is known for its rich biodiversity. Lishui's Ecology and Environment Bureau currently has a team comprising over 1,200 experts from more than 50 research institutions who study the local flora and fauna. The team has discovered 22 new species over the past two years.
