There was tremendous excitement recently among bird watchers in Lishui city, East China's Zhejiang province, when a new species of bird was recorded.

The little visitor – the Erithacus akahige, or Japanese Robin – was spotted by many bird lovers at the Yunhe Terrace National Wetland Park in Yunhe county.

Japanese Robins are mainly to be found in the coastal areas of Japan and China. Around the start of winter, they migrate southwards, cross the sea and pass through the coastal areas of East China and finally migrate to Guangdong, Guangxi and Fujian provinces to pass the winter.

The Yunhe Terrace National Wetland Park has become one of the best places to watch birds in Lishui.

Baihejian Mountain in the park, at some 1,593 meters above sea-level, is widely said to be a paradise for various kinds of birds – including the Elliot's pheasant, the koklass pheasant, the crested serpent eagle and the fire-breasted flowerpecker.
