Lishui on national list for improving people's lives

The city of Lishui – located in East China's Zhejiang province – was recently recognized nationally for its efforts to improve the lives of its people.

According to the Report on the Development of People's Livelihoods in China in 2021 – released by the School of Government at Beijing Normal University recently – Lishui ranked 28th in the top 100 prefecture-level cities in China with the best development of resident's lives.

The ranking was based on quantitative analysis of living conditions in 260 prefecture-level cities in China on the basis of statistics and research on people's income and consumption, residences and travel, culture and education, as well as safety and health.

Lishui is understood to have been making great efforts in providing its people with a better and well-off life. In 2020, the city spent 39.8 billion yuan ($6.25 billion) on various projects and services to do with bettering conditions for residents and 1.06 billion yuan on poverty alleviation.

The city has also been selected as one of China's cities, for its special contribution to a moderately prosperous society in all respects in 2020. The incomes of the city's low-income farmers increased by 15.5 percent last year. That performance meant the growth rate ranked first in the province for five consecutive years.
