The Yunhe Terrace scenic spot – located in Yunhe county, administered by Lishui city in East China's Zhejiang province – has in recent years been making concerted efforts to upgrade itself into a national 5A-level scenic spot that is worthy of its existing reputation.
The Yunhe terraces were already recognized among the most beautiful rice terraces in China, which have been nourishing locals with food for a millennium. But the scenic area has reportedly really wowed its visitors of late with thrilling new facilities such as a sightseeing cable car and a glass sightseeing tower.
"Transportation to the Yunhe Terrace scenic spot is much more convenient now and the infrastructure is more complete than before, with cable cars and cafes," said one visitor.
Statistics showed that during this year's National Day holiday on Oct 1-7, the Yunhe Terrace scenic spot received 33,700 visits, generating operating revenue of 3.96 million yuan ($620,561).
The Yunhe terraces are said to integrate harmoniously with the nearby mountains, waters and villages. Its appearance transforms with the seasons and throughout the day.
They were first reclaimed during the late Tang (618-907) and early Song (960-1279) dynasties and then gradually developed with the rise of the local silver mining industry.
