The Guyan Huaxiang Town Art Season opened on Oct 15 at the Guyan Huanxiang Scenic Spot, located  in Lishui city in East China's Zhejiang province.

The art season – scheduled to run to Dec 30 – will offer art exhibitions, cultural performances, creative bazars, traditional local snacks and many other excitement to residents and visitors, according to local media reports.

As an important part of the art season, the first Guyan Huaxiang National Landscape Oil Painting Biennale opened on Oct 1.

The exhibition – which will last till Oct 25 – features 198 artworks selected from more than 3,100 entries submitted nationwide. Their subjects range from epic landscapes to smaller works, depicting natural beauty during the different seasons.

On Oct 15-17, the Big Camphor Tree Oil Painting Market took place at Guyan Huaxiang Scenic Spot. The market reportedly combined the sales of paintings and artworks with other fun cultural activities.

Guyan Huaxiang, as the cradle of the Lishui Barbizon school – a local style of painting based on the Barbizon school of art or movement in France – has reportedly inspired many painters and is said to be a typical example of culture that drives development.

The place receives more than 150,000 people every year, who come there to do sketches. It has inspired more than 300 colleges and universities to establish practice bases there, including the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

What's more, the combined value of oil paintings created each year in Guyan Huaxiang is estimated to be around 120 million yuan ($18.64 million).
