The first Guyan Huaxiang National Landscape Oil Painting Biennale opened in the city of Lishui, in East China's Zhejiang province, on Oct 1.
The 25-day exhibition features 198 artworks selected from more than 3,100 entries submitted nationwide. Their subjects range from epic landscapes to small sceneries depicting natural beauty during different seasons.
Some 158 of the works are being displayed at the Lishui Art Museum, while another 40 are on show at the Li Art Museum, in the Guyan Huaxiang Scenic Area in Lishui.
Guyan Huaxiang, as the cradle of the Lishui Barbizon school – a local school of painting based on the Barbizon school in France – has reportedly inspired many painters and is said to be a typical example of culture that drives development.
The biennale reportedly attracted lots of tourists during the National Day holiday on Oct 1-7.
