A new provincial water infrastructure and water conservation project officially began operating on Sept 26 in Jinyun county – administered by Lishui city in East China's Zhejiang province – which is expected to have a major and long-lasting impact on the region.
The Qianming Reservoir involved a total investment of 1.92 billion yuan ($297.47 million), making it the largest government-funded water conservation project in Jinyun.
It is understood to be a medium-sized reservoir mainly for flood control, water supply and irrigation.
The Qianming Reservoir is expected to improve the water conservation infrastructure of Jinyun, reduce the flood control pressure on villages and towns along the Haoxi River and guarantee the drinking water safety of the whole county.
It is also seen as being of great significance to the region's land development and industrial upgrading.
