The Yiwu High-Tech Zone was recently named a provincial high-tech industrial zone by the People's Government of Zhejiang province.
Yiwu received approval to establish a provincial high-tech zone in 2016. Over the past five years, the city has made efforts to develop the Yiwu High-Tech Zone, which has seen a rapid rise in its economic indicators, accelerated the emergence of scientific and technological innovation platforms and the development of emerging industries.
The zone has developed a complete intelligent industrial chain for the optoelectronics and photovoltaic industries. It has become home to the world's top six chain master enterprises in the photovoltaic industry. The zone's production capacity has reached 35 gigawatts annually, accounting for nearly 20 percent of the global share.
The zone has also cooperated with Zhejiang University, Fudan University, and China Jiliang University to build a global photovoltaic joint innovation center to provide a source of innovation for the photovoltaic industry. It has been identified as a national technological innovation base and a national new industrialization demonstration base.
In 2022, industrial enterprises above the designated size in the Yiwu High-Tech Zone spent 5.95 billion yuan on research and development, accounting for about 3.54 percent of the main business income, which is 0.6 percentage points higher than the provincial average.
