The 12-day 2023 Spring Festival Shopping Festival, held at the Yiwu Non-staple Food Market, saw an average daily transaction value of 29.32 million yuan ($4.33 million), a year-on-year increase of 2 percent, according to local media outlets.

The event started on Jan 7, with over 800 merchants selling their products at discounted prices.

As the Chinese New Year approaches, traditional festive goods, clothing, shoes, hats, New Year's pictures and calendars, drinks, frozen foods, fruits, and flowers are all popular among shoppers.

Wu Junxia, a Yiwu native, said she was happy to see the concessionary rates for consumers. Ahead of the weeklong Spring Festival holiday, the most important holiday for Chinese people, Wu bought a lot of food, drinks, and snacks for her family.

During the event, about 23,000 people visited the Yiwu Non-staple Food Market each day. Organizers also cooperated with the Agriculture Bank of China to give out consumption coupons worth 500,000 yuan, which has increased consumption by more than 56 million yuan.
