Construction started on the Yiwu Global Digital Trade Center on Nov 25, in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Yiwu's wholesale market for daily commodities.

Zhejiang China Commodity City Group Co Ltd will spend 8 billion yuan ($1.15 billion) on the new trade center, which is expected to be the sixth generation of Yiwu's wholesale market.

It will be built in Futian sub-district and cover an area of about 570 mu (38 hectares) and a total construction area of 1.3 million square meters.

The trade center will focus on trade in services, industrial cultivation, innovation and creativity, dynamic business, imported commodities, and popular brands, providing one-stop services related to work and life for merchants.

The Yiwu's wholesale market for daily commodities has been expanded for 10 times with five upgrades since 1982, and it has won the acclaim of the World Bank and some other United Nations organizations as the world's largest supermarket of daily commodities.
