Quzhou athletes win 14 medals at Hangzhou Asian Para Games
Twelve Quzhou athletes won seven gold, five silver, and two bronze medals in the boccia, goalball, and rowing events at the 4th Hangzhou Asian Para Games, which ended on Oct 28.
China's boccia team, formed in August 2021, was composed of Zhejiang natives. They dominated the boccia event, winning seven golds, four silvers, and three bronzes. Quzhou athletes contributed six golds, four silvers, and two bronzes to the tally.
In the individual boccia event, Quzhou's Song Jinqi won the gold medal in the men's individual B3 category, while Wu Yanfeng secured the silver medal in the women's individual B3 category. Weng Feibiao and Chen Guoqiang won gold and bronze, respectively, in the B1 singles event, Zhu Xiali claimed gold in the women's B2 singles event, and Xu Yonggang took silver in the men's B6 singles event.
In the mixed doubles boccia event, Chen Guoqiang and Fan Hongyan won gold in the mixed doubles B1 category, with Weng Feibiao partnering with a teammate to win silver. Feng Shugui and Zhu Xiali secured silver in the mixed doubles B2 category. Song Jinqi and his teammate won gold in the mixed doubles B3 category, while Zhang Huayong and Wu Yanfeng took bronze. Xu Yonggang and Zhou Xiaofang clinched gold in the mixed doubles B7 category.
In the women's goalball final, Quzhou's Ke Peiying performed excellently and won a gold medal with her team. She also qualified for the Paris Paralympics in August. "I'm proud to bring glory to my country! I will train hard for the Paris Paralympics," said Ke.
In the PR1 men's single sculls rowing final, Quzhou's Yang Jie earned a silver medal with a time of 10 minutes and 31.13 seconds.
