Chihuai town in Kaihua county, Quzhou, Zhejiang province, recently entered harvest season.
In Tanglin village, eggplants are ripe and ready to be picked.
To increase local incomes and improve efficiency, Tanglin village has used crop rotation this year.
The eggplants can be harvested from June to October, and then wheat can be planted in the same field using the remaining fertilizer, said Liu Taizhong, party chief of Tanglin village. This year, 10,000 yuan ($1,371.55) can be earned from each mu (0.06 hectares) of land. The village planted 90 mu of eggplants, which will greatly increase the collective income.
The vegetable planting base was established by Zhejiang Runxing Agricultural Development Co Ltd, which transferred 230 mu of land from nearly 300 households to plant eggplants. Villagers can earn rent and wages by working on the base.
More than 130 residents have found jobs at the base so far.
Xia Jiakui, a 76-year-old resident, said that he and his wife had earned more than 8,000 yuan since March by renting land and working.
The company has also provided services for seedling supply, production guidance, field management and product sales and has cooperated with agricultural technicians to ensure the quality of vegetables.
