The National Innovation Alliance of Sealwort Industry and Jiangshan forestry bureau organized two scientific investigations into sealwort on Jianglang Mountain on May 9 and Aug 11 to 13, achieving notable results.
The investigation found that Jianglang Mountain is the most complete wild sealwort community in the world.
Due to the steep rock walls of Jianglang Mountain, it is rarely visited by humans. The sealwort growing on the cliff has been around for millions of years and has never been artificially collected.
The research team will further analyze the sealwort's origin, evolution and living environment to provide a scientific basis for sealwort seed selection, efficient cultivation on the forest floor, and sustainable use.
Sealwort was first recorded in Shennong's Herbal Classic and has both medicinal and nutritional value. It originated in the Himalayas, and China is its center of evolution and distribution. There are about 60 species worldwide, 39 of which are in China, including 20 endemic species.
