The Jiaxing International Fruit Conference was held in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, on Nov 3, local media reported.
Themed "Global Fruits, Chinese Market", the conference aimed to explore the further development of the fruit industry and share the benefits of the Chinese fruit market.
The conference was attended by about 400 people, including local government officials, officials of the consulates general of Thailand, Greece and South Korea in Shanghai, as well as experts in the fruit industry.
Zhang Bing, Party secretary of Jiaxing, extended a warm welcome to the participants and thanked them for their support of the city's development.
Zhang said that following years of development, Jiaxing has become a moderately well-off society boasting growing economic strength, improved natural environment, and convenient transportation.
He welcomed fruits dealers from home and abroad to pay more attention to Jiaxing and start businesses in the city.
During the opening ceremony, the Jiaxing municipal government signed strategic cooperation agreements with the China Chamber of Commerce of Import/Export of Foodstuffs (CFNA), the Native Produce and Animal By-products and the China Fruit Marketing Association.
The event was sponsored by the CFNA, the Jiaxing Municipal Government, and the Shaanxi Fruit Industry Center.
Located in the core area of the Yangtze Rive Delta, Jiaxing is home to numerous fruit traders. The city also houses two important fruit distribution centers in China – Jiaxing Fruit Market and Haiguangxing Fruit Trading Center.
