A captivating performance featuring paper-cutting, embroidery, mud sculpture, and shadow puppetry on Nov 3 drew visitors into an immersive cultural experience in Haiyuan county, Zhongwei, Ningxia.
The event highlights Haiyuan's dedicated efforts in recent years to protect and promote its cultural heritage. These efforts include cultivating cultural heritage inheritors, establishing display platforms, fostering industry growth, and raising public awareness.
Haiyuan has hosted over 40 shadow puppet performances this year and launched the "Cloud Tour of Cultural Heritage" video channel, which livestreams traditional embroidery and mud sculpture techniques.
The county also organizes various activities, such as exhibitions, film festivals, school programs, and cultural heritage promotional series, to help residents understand, appreciate, and enjoy the county's cultural charm.
Haiyuan is currently home to 48 recognized cultural heritage items and 133 inheritors. Authorities have implemented supportive policies, provided education and training, and expanded markets to help inheritors overcome challenges.
According to Li Lan, deputy director of the Haiyuan bureau of culture, tourism, radio, and television, these measures ensure the sustainable development of traditional culture and the preservation of cultural heritage.
The county established an embroidery and paper-cutting incubation base in 2015. To expand market reach, it organizes local enterprises yearly to participate in major exhibitions, such as the China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair and the Canton Fair.
