Taiwan film presented on Chinese mainland promotes cross-Strait exchanges
The 15th Cross-Strait Film Exhibition was held in Ya'an, Sichuan province from May 27 to 31. The acclaimed Taiwanese film, The Pig, The Snake, And The Pigeon (Zhou Chu Chu San Hai), was shown during the event, marking the excellent result of cross-Strait exchanges in the film industry.
The Pig, The Snake, And The Pigeon (Zhou Chu Chu San Hai) has grossed over 600 million yuan ($82.83 million) on the Chinese mainland.
"The mainland film market is huge. Everyone is researching how to make Taiwanese films meet the needs and tastes of the mainland market," said Chu Yen Ping, a Taiwanese director. He said that for a Taiwan film to gross over 1 billion new Taiwan dollars in Taiwan is already a "great success," with only one or two films achieving such box office numbers each year. The Chinese mainland box office earnings of The Pig, The Snake, And The Pigeon (Zhou Chu Chu San Hai) are close to 3 billion new Taiwan dollars, which is "very impressive and gives everyone a great direction and hope."
Wei Te Shen, another Taiwanese director believes that this is a case of enhancing mutual understanding between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, and he is looking forward to more relevant cultural exchanges between the two sides.
