Huailai, located in the world's golden zone of grape planting at 40 ° N latitude, with more than 1,000 years of grape cultivation history, is well-known as "China's grape town" ,"China's wine town" and "China's Bordeaux".

Thanks to the unique natural endowments of topography, soil, light, temperature and precipitation, Huailai has become one of the most suitable grape producing areas in China, as well as an ideal large-scale high-quality grape production area. With 40 years of development, the grape industry has become the most characteristic leading industry in the county. At present, the county has 120,000 mu of fresh grapes, more than 150 species.

In recent years, Huailai has expanded and strengthened the grape industry with the idea of developing global tourism, organically combined grape industry with eco-tourism and beautiful rural construction, actively expanded new tourism formats, effectively promoted the transformation of grape industry from "quantity" to "quality", and formed a distinctive grape health and leisure industry cluster area.

Standing on the viewing platform of the grape sightseeing garden in Sangyuan Town, you can have a panoramic view of the grape base. From Houhaoyao village to Jiahe village, a grape tourism economic belt integrating tourism, catering and accommodation, which is mainly based on traditional planting, is forming.

In August 2019, Huailai implemented the infrastructure construction project of Yanhuai (from Yanqing to Huailai) grape culture leisure tourism area. Relying on the unique natural conditions and local grape culture of Houhaoyao village of Sangyuan Town, the project integrates the surrounding 10,000 mu vineyards, Guanting Reservoir National Wetland Park, hot spring town and other resources to build a unique mulberry garden town of 10,000 mu. The town combines the natural pastoral scenery with the rich grape (wine) culture, and provides an excellent place for tourists to enjoy, taste and travel. Driven by the project, during the grape picking season, it receives more than 1,700 tourists a day, and has become the most complete grape variety picking base around the capital all year round.

The quality of Huailai wine is also good. In 1979, China's first dry white wine was born in Huailai. "Huailai wine" is listed as a "national geographical indication protection product". Good geographical conditions and high-quality wine drive the rise of Huailai County winery. Up to now, there has been 39 wineries of various types in Huailai County, with an annual output of 150,000 tons.

Walking in the Yanhuai River Valley, an artistic Chateau made of stone and red brick is particularly attractive. The vineyard, which covers an area of more than 700 mu, is a collection of food, wine, coffee, bar, book bar, workshop, conference space and exhibition space. With wine as the carrier and winery as the center, the winery is committed to developing a mature community integrating farming experience, ecological diet, literary creation and exhibition, and cultural study. The winery has galleries, museums, restaurants and winery accommodation. From poetry and wine aesthetics, fashion life, creative design, cultural scene, handicraft workshop to art experience activities, the winery is no longer a pure production and storage base, but an immersive humanistic experience complex.

Since 2000, Huailai has actively held the "China Huailai Grape Festival" with grape industry as the media and festival friends, and launched the characteristic brand of "HuaXiang GuoHai" leisure tourism. The holding of tourism festivals really organically combines agricultural tourism, cultural tourism and industry poverty alleviation, comprehensively and pluralistic publicity and exhibition of Huailai fruit industry and tourism resources, which further highlights China's grape town The charm of wine town.

Sun Xiaohan, member of the Standing Committee of Zhangjiakou Municipal Party committee, director of the Publicity Department and secretary of Huailai County Party committee, told reporters that in the top-grade design of "three lakes and one lake", it is not a single mode of "grapevine from grapes" and "wine from wine" since the idea of "integration" is already written into the county development plan. Huailai has particularly launched a new industrial integration mode of "wine plus eco-tourism", accelerating the deep integration of winery agglomeration and Rural Revitalization. Eight rural revitalization demonstration projects such as Lishi G9 have successfully introduced to develop wine themed cultural series products in multiple dimensions, and deeply expand wine tourism products and derivative industry chain, and Huailai grapes get even more popular in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

"It is estimated that by 2021, Huailai will present 150,000 mu grapes and 20 rural revitalization demonstration sites. The grape industry and cultural tourism industry will be deeply integrated, and the number of people to enjoy grape picking and sightseeing and winery tourism will reach 2 million per year," Sun  said.
