Chinese mainland reports 44 new confirmed COVID-19 cases

BEIJING -- Chinese health authority said Tuesday that it received reports of 44 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Monday, including 31 imported cases and 13 locally-transmitted ones.

All the 13 locally-transmitted cases were reported in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the National Health Commission said in its daily report.

Shanghai Municipality and Fujian Province each reported one new suspected COVID-19 case, both imported from outside the mainland.

No deaths related to the disease were reported Monday.

A total of 52 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery on Monday, the commission said.

By the end of Monday, a total of 2,200 imported cases had been reported on the mainland. Of them, 2,046 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery, and 154 remained hospitalized, with one in serious condition. No deaths from the imported cases had been reported.

As of Monday, the overall confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland had reached 84,712, including 794 patients who were still being treated, with 44 in severe conditions.

Altogether 79,284 people had been discharged after recovery, and 4,634 had died of the disease on the mainland, the commission said.

There were still three suspected COVID-19 cases, it added.

According to the commission, 1,729 close contacts were discharged from medical observation on Monday, and there were 23,790 close contacts still under medical observation.

Also on Monday, 17 new asymptomatic cases, including six from outside the mainland, were reported, and two asymptomatic cases were re-categorized as confirmed ones.

The commission said 285 asymptomatic cases, including 137 from outside the mainland, were still under medical observation.

By Monday, 4,148 confirmed cases, including 55 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 46 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 477 cases, including seven deaths, in Taiwan.

A total of 2,917 COVID-19 patients in the Hong Kong SAR, 46 in the Macao SAR, and 441 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
