16th Asian Games: Guangzhou 2010

The 16th Asian Games (also known as the XVI Asiad) took place in Guangzhou, China, from November 12 to 27, 2010. Guangzhou was the second city in China to host the Asian Games after Beijing in 1990.

A total of 476 events of 42 sports were scheduled to be contested, making it the biggest event in the history of the Asian Games.

The emblem of the 16th Asian Games resembled the shape of a torch with soft rising lines, representing the flame of the Asian Games burning bright and never going out.

The mascots of the 16th Asian Games were five animals, the largest number of mascots of any previous Asian Games. The images were five sports fashion sheep, named "A Xiang", "A He", "A Ru", "A Yi" and "Le Yangyang". These names compose Chinese words for peace and happiness, which expressed the wish that the Guangzhou Asian Games would bring "auspiciousness, harmony, completeness and happiness" to the Asian people and conveyed the idea of "harmony and passion" that the games reflected.
