Shanghai establishes alliance to serve IP sector
The Shanghai International Intellectual Property Operation Alliance, uniting well-known chambers of commerce, industry associations, science and technology enterprises, financial institutions, universities and research institutes, was launched on Oct 22.
As an IP center in Asia Pacific, Shanghai has many explorations in IP construction, and the alliance was established to better serve the whole IP chain.
The alliance, run by Shanghai International Intellectual Property Operation Management Co Ltd, focuses on functional construction of cross-border transactions of IP, financial innovation, industry operation, IP layout and application protection.
According to Rui Wenbiao, director-general of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, the city has adjusted the direction of patent funding, giving full support to invention patents and Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) patents, through which enterprises are encouraged to apply for patents of higher value.

To improve the efficiency of IP rights transformation and application in China, early in April 2018, the International Operating (Shanghai) Pilot Platform of the State Intellectual Property Operating Public Service Platform was approved by the National Intellectual Property Administration.
In November 2018, the entity running the platform, Shanghai International Intellectual Property Operation Management Co Ltd, was incorporated and launched.
