On December 8, an exhibition showcasing the profound cultural research journey of Xiao Yunru was inaugurated at the Jia Pingwa Literature and Art Museum located at Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, in Northwest China.
The opening ceremony welcomed more than 100 distinguished cultural and artistic lfigures, including renowned writer Jia Pingwa, literary critic Li Xing, and film performer Xu Huanshan.
Featuring a diverse array of over a hundred exhibits, the exhibition offers a glimpse into the life and works of the esteemed cultural scholar Xiao Yunru. It showcases a comprehensive timeline of his works, research endeavors, calligraphic masterpieces, historical artifacts, newspapers, and evocative photographs capturing his developmental journey.
Xiao Yunru, a distinguished cultural scholar and accomplished calligrapher was born in November 1940 in Yudu county, Ganzhou, Jiangxi province. He is an alumnus of Renmin University of China and embarked on his literary career in 1961, later joinning the Chinese Writers Association in 1983. His prose writing philosophy, encapsulated by the principle of 'form dispersing, spirit not dispersing', has significantly influenced contemporary Chinese literature.
Renowned in Shaanxi province and admired as a "virtuous and artistic" figure, Xiao Yunru has authored over 7 million words across various genres. Beyond his extensive writings, he has critically examined the works of more than 400 writers and artists. His groundbreaking research on Western Chinese culture and Western literature and art has established him as a pioneer in his field. His works have been translated into several languages and have garnered widespread recognition both domestically and internationally.
Furthermore, Xiao's calligraphic creations, characterized by dynamic strokes, captivating ink motifs, distinctive flair, profound cultural essence, and vibrant vitality, have been exhibited across multiple countries, including Italy, South Africa, and beyond. They have found a permanent place in the collections of numerous esteemed museums and art galleries worldwide.
During the exhibition's opening ceremony, writer Jia Pingwa presented Xiao Yunru with the calligraphic masterpiece "Elegance Chang'an". Reflecting on Xiao Yunru's enduring influence on the realm of prose writing, Jia highlighted his pioneering contributions to the critique of Western culture, literature, and cinema.
In a touching speech, Xiao Yunru expressed his profound gratitude and love for Shaanxi, the enduring land that has nurtured him for over six decades. He pledged his commitment to work hard and continue growing. .
