Forum explores development of sociology and common prosperity

The New Journey of Social Work and the 5th Northwest Sociology Forum, guided by the Society Work Department of the Shaanxi Provincial Party Committee and hosted by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Xi'an Jiaotong University, together with the Shaanxi Provincial Philosophy and Social Key Research Base - Social Development and Common Prosperity Research Center, and the Shaanxi Provincial Society of Social Work, took place on November 30 at Xi'an Jiaotong University in Xi’an, Shaanxi province in Northwest China.

The forum is conducted in the form of keynote speeches and parallel forums.

The forum featured keynote speeches and parallel forums, drawing hundreds of experts, scholars, teachers, and students from over 50 universities, scientific research institutions, and social organization departments across China, including prestigious institutions such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Renmin University of China, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, and Nankai University. Over 300 articles were submitted from educational and practical sectors nationwide, with 60 selected for presentation.

During the event, the establishment of the Shaanxi Society Work Research Institute was announced. Wang Huan, deputy secretary of the Party Committee at Xi'an Jiaotong University, pledged full support for the institute as the dean unit of the Shaanxi Provincial Society Work Research Institute. He emphasized collaboration with colleagues from various backgrounds to build a top-tier provincial platform for society work research and cooperation to enhance the quality of society work in Shaanxi province.

During the event, the establishment of the Shaanxi Society Work Research Institute is announced. 

Following the opening ceremony, the forum delved into the keynote speeches, with Professor Wang Sibin, president of the Chinese Society of Social Work and Department of Sociology at Peking University, delivering a report titled "Leveraging the Advantages of Social Work Services to Unite the Masses." Wang stressed the importance of social work and social governance in the context of China's modernization, highlighting the need to prioritize the well-being of the masses and societal conditions to achieve national prosperity and security. He underscored the pivotal role of social work in uniting and serving the masses, analyzing the functions of service and cohesion and their interconnectedness.

Additionally, the Society Work Department of the Shaanxi Provincial Party Committee organized a symposium involving experts and scholars within and outside the province in the field of social work. This symposium facilitated exchanges and discussions on key and challenging issues in social work, drawing participants from institutions such as Renmin University of China, Northwest Normal University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University of Science and Technology, Shaanxi Normal University, Northwest University, Northwest University of Political Science and Law, and Shaanxi Open University.

The forum featured seven parallel forums focusing on themes such as "Chinese Path to Modernization and China's Social Work in the New Development Stage," "Theory and Practice of Social Work in the New Development Stage," "Modern Grass-Roots Social Governance System and Governance Capacity," "Rural Revitalization, Common Prosperity, and Regional Coordinated Development," "Policies and Practices in Various Fields, Groups, and Issues of Social Work," "Population, Society, and Health in Chinese Path to Modernization," and "Social Transformation and High-Quality Development in the Digital Era."
