The Chinese airfoil genealogy and database, led to construct by Northwestern Polytechnical University headquartered in Xi’an, Shaanxi province in Northwest China, was released on Oct 16.
The press conference for Chinese airfoil genealogy and database was held in Xi'an on October 16.
This historic release marks the debut of China's aircraft wing profile genealogy, a development of immense strategic importance. It accelerates the establishment of wing profile systems and databases with fully independent intellectual property rights in China. This initiative enhances the nation's capacity for independent innovation in aerodynamic layout design within the aviation sector. It also bolsters the sustainable growth of high-end aerospace equipment in China, laying a robust foundation for enhancing aircraft performance, industrial advancement, and the enduring progress of the national aerospace industry.
The airfoil, as the cornerstone of an aircraft, profoundly influences aerodynamic efficiency, flight stability, and holds a pivotal role in aerodynamic theory and aircraft design.
During the press conference, Professor Gao Zhenghong, the project leader of the Chinese Airfoil Genealogy, presented the remarkable accomplishments of the Airfoil Genealogy project. The Advanced Airfoil Database incorporates tailor-made specialized airfoil genealogies tailored to the design requirements of 8 advanced aircraft types. This initiative has established China's premier independent high-performance airfoil genealogical system, encompassing over 1,000 airfoils from 6 series, alongside an industrial-grade database. This system facilitates multidisciplinary performance analysis of airfoils and custom airfoil design based on specific layout characteristics.
The research team behind this project has diligently addressed the nation's strategic imperatives. Over more than three decades of relentless research and development, they have formulated a suite of aircraft wing profiles with independent intellectual property rights. These profiles span a wide array of advanced wing configurations, bolstering the research and development of cutting-edge models and propelling advancements in China's aviation science and technology foundational research.
