Last week, Xi'an Jiaotong University, located in Xi’an, Shaanxi province in Northwest China, welcomed over 6000 undergraduate students for the year 2024.
This year’s welcoming initiatives at Xi'an Jiaotong University showcased several features including, the "Panda Special Train" journeyed from Sichuan province in Southwest China to Shaanxi, offering reliable transportation for the new arrivals. Additionally, unmanned vehicles were utilized for the first time to transport luggage, incorporating a strong technological aspect.

On August 23rd, train D1920 departed from Chengdu East Station, with the "Panda Special Train" arranged by the Alumni Association of Xi'an Jiaotong University in Sichuan ferrying over 60 new students from Sichuan to Xi'an at no cost.
During this special train journey, university instructors deliver the freshmen's inaugural lesson.
This academic year, Xi'an Jiaotong University enrolled more than 6,000 undergraduate students, including 283 students from Sichuan province. The number and representation of Sichuan students admitted have shown a consistent increase from 217 students in 2020 to 283 students this year.
As the new arrivals landed unmanned vehicles where used for the first time to efficiently transport the student’s belongings across the university campus. Among the vehicles used, the M200 agricultural unmanned vehicle, developed by the university students for fruit tree protection, stood out as a pioneering project. Capable of human-machine separation, this vehicle conducts all-weather autonomous and effective spraying operations in orchards. Featuring a robust full track design, it boasts strong off-road capabilities and can tow up to 1000 pounds.
By showcasing the impressive scientific and technological accomplishments of the student team at Xi'an Jiaotong University, the institution aspires to inspire new students to engage in innovative scientific endeavors, embody a pioneering spirit in serving society, and contribute to the nation through their intellect and talents.
