Chang'an University, headquartered in Xi'an, Shaanxi province in Northwest China, held an education development meeting on April 18 aiming to further develop high-level university education with new era characteristics.

Zhao Yide, governor of Shaanxi Province, congratulated Chang'an University on its 70th anniversary and the holding of the meeting, saying that over the past 70 years, Chang'an University has actively integrated into the national major development strategy, given full play to its professional advantages in the three major fields of highway transportation, land and resources, and urban and rural construction, actively served local economic and social construction, and made important contributions to the development of the country and its western region, especially Shaanxi.

"I hope that Chang'an University will further focus on high-quality social services, turn more scientific research achievements into products and develop them into industries, and make new and greater contributions to speeding up the construction of a strong education province and promoting high-quality development in Shaanxi," the governor said.

Song Demin, member of the party leading group and vice minister of the Ministry of education, said in his speech that Chang'an University is an institution of higher learning with a long history of good management and profound cultural heritage. It has trained a large number of specialized talents for the country and has become an important base for talent cultivation and high-level scientific research in Western China.

Li Mingyuan, deputy secretary of the Xi'an municipal Party committee and mayor of Xi'an, pointed out that since its establishment Chang'an University has made outstanding contributions to Xi'an's economic and social development by giving full play to its advantages in personnel training, scientific research and social services. He hoped it will continue to give full play to its professional advantages, optimize its discipline layout, strengthen its cooperation with colleges and enterprises, and provide scientific and human resources for Xi'an's bigger and stronger industries.

Chen Zhijian, secretary of the Party committee of Chang'an University, said that Chang'an University has been showing that a socialist university with Chinese characteristics will always follow the Party and listen to the Party's words. It has always been inspired by the motherland and national rejuvenation. It has taken root in the western region, started hard businesses, established morality and been a thoroughfare to the country's development. It adheres to the family feelings and educational pursuit of learning, seeking truth and integrating Chinese and Western countries knowledge and practices.

"Facing the future, the people of Chang'an University will write a new chapter of growing up for a century with broader feelings, firmer courage and stronger responsibility, and make new and greater contributions to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the Chinese dream," Chen said.

Sha Aimin, president of Chang'an University, said that over the past 70 years, the university has made important contributions in serving major national strategies and local economic and social development, and in deeply participating in international scientific and technological cooperation and personnel training.

"Standing in a new historical position, Chang'an University will focus on cultivating talents with morality, create a highland for top-notch innovative talent training, highlight its unique advantages, accelerate the construction of 'double first class', pay attention to basic innovation, and become a strong support for a powerful scientific and technological country that is firmly open and confident and promotes deeper and wider win-win cooperation. It will go on to make new and greater contributions to the realization of the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation," Sha said.
