This summer, five aviation major students from the Honors College of China’s Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU)spent almost the whole vacation in building the first LEGO sand table for NPU library. It took them 100,000 LEGO bricks and 400 hours of work to finish the project.

In order to make a special birthday gift for the upcoming 80th birthday of NPU, the five junior students decided to use LEGO to restore one of the most beautiful buildings of their university.

They first used various channels to gather designing materials for the library, then took thousands of aerial photos and conducted field observations to collect more details of the library. After that, the students created a three-dimensional model and worked on its every detail. To achieve the best restoration effect, some light schemes were changed up to six times.

When this model was completed, it amazed every one! This LEGO library has replicated almost all the interiors of the original building. To restore real scenes, the team also placed tables, chairs, sofas, bookshelves, floor tiles, and walls within the Lego library, all of which was done proportionally.

This "birthday present" will express the warmest birthday wishes to the 80-year-old Northwestern Polytechnical University!
