On Oct 11, 2016, JHL Biotech Inc (JHL for short) announced that its biopharmacy factory located in Wuhan, Hubei province, won a 2016 Excellence in Facility Design award issued by BioProcess International.

This award is a grand biennial event in the biopharmacy field, which recognizes outstanding companies that can break through traditional technological limitations in terms of design and construction in biological processing facilities. JHL became the award winner with the biopharmacy plant KUBio™ that it established with innovative design and technology at Wuhan Biolake.

JHL Wuhan's annual output of monoclonal antibodies reaches 250kg at its maximum capacity. It was the first biopharmacy factory designed and set up with the latest module concept of precasting standard for GE Healthcare.

It only took 18 months from launch to settlement, which is much quicker than the traditional three-year construction. The various modules of JHL Wuhan were pre-constructed in Germany and then were transported to the construction site for JHL Wuhan. It only took eight days to finish the primary assembling work. JHL Wuhan adopted a disposable process, which has lower construction cost, quicker product conversion efficiency, and simplified operation procedures compared to the traditional process.

JHL won the BioProcess International award, which is not only a reward for the relentless efforts of the JHL team to realize the company’s motto (Making World-Class Medicines Affordable), but also won recognition from its long-term partner GE, according to Qiao Shirui, CEO of JHL

JHL and GE started cooperation in 2012. In 2013, they set up the dominate factory that focuses on the disposable process. In 2016, JHL Wuhan was completed, which is a milestone for cooperation between JHL and GE in jointly creating elements in the biopharmacy industry. The innovative facility design and solution of GE KUBio™ has saved time and sped up the process for JHL biopharmacy development.
