Chongqing goes all out with virus fight in Xiaogan

Updated: 2020-03-11

Chongqing medical team -- currently working in Xiaogan city in Central China's Hubei province -- has gone all out in the fight against the novel coronavirus epidemic.

The team has directly managed and treated well over a thousand coronavirus pneumonia patients, its leader told a news conference in Hubei on March 9.

At the conference, Mei Zhe said that after receiving the order to support for Xiaogan's virus fight, Chongqing organized and sent 812 medical, management and disease control and prevention personnel to Xiaogan.

They were distributed in six local designated hospitals.

As of March 8, the Chongqing medical team had directly managed and treated 1,092 confirmed patients, of whom 907 were cured and discharged.

In addition, 175 confirmed cases and 825 suspected cases were jointly managed and treated with Heilongjiang medical team.

Meanwhile, officials said Chongqing has seen to it that a large number of medical materials, living materials and supplies for spring ploughing are on standby in Xiaogan, with a total value of more than 35 million yuan ($5.03 million).

The Chongqing medical team has no plans to pack up and leave.

Officials said it will continue to focus on support work, increase rescue efforts, promote the integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine -- and work to improve the accuracy and effectiveness of clinical treatment.

They added that under the unified leadership of Xiaogan municipal government, they would continue to go all out to win the battle for epidemic prevention and control.
