Chongqing reports more cured coronavirus cases

Updated: 2020-02-20

Southwest China's Chongqing reported another 20 cured cases and five more novel coronavirus infections on Feb 19, according to officials from the Chongqing Health Commission.

As of midnight on Feb 19, Chongqing had 560 confirmed cases, including five deaths, 274 cured cases and 281 cases under treatment.

Among the 281 cases being treated, 32 were in severe condition and 13 in critical condition.

A total of 22,700 close contacts had been traced, with 20,385 free from medical observation and 2,315 people still under observation.

Experts said they believed that there were no new reports of confirmed cases in 26 districts and counties for seven consecutive days -- and that the overall epidemic situation in Chongqing was stable.

However, they added that the source of newly confirmed cases has changed in the past three days, with mainly asymptomatic infections being screened among close contacts.

In addition, with the resumption of work and production, a large number of mobile returning workers may bring the risk of an epidemic rebound, so subsequent epidemic prevention and control tasks are still seen as being complicated.

In response, the Chongqing Health Commission has reminded members of the general public to pay attention to their own health condition and that of their family members -- and take the initiative to measure body temperatures.

The recommendation is that if there are suspicious symptoms such as a fever, cough, or fatigue, etc, people should wear a mask and seek medical treatment in a timely manner, while avoiding public transportation such as the metro and buses.
