A total of 18 consular officials and media representatives from seven countries -- including Japan, the United Kingdom, Italy, Ethiopia, Hungary, Singapore and South Korea -- were invited to visit Chongqing Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital on Dec 10, according to local officials.
The event was co-hosted by the Chongqing Municipal Health Commission, the Municipal Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Foreign Affairs Office of the Municipal government.
Tang Wen, deputy director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Municipal government, attended the event and delivered a speech.
The guests visited the Outpatients Clinic, the International Cooperation Area of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Experience Center and the Special Department of TCM.
A series of activities were organized based on the characteristics of TCM culture, offering the guests a chance to experience the charm of the culture.
They tasted traditional Chinese medicine tea and medicated food and made traditional Chinese medicine sachets, among other things.
Officials said the medical environment, high-quality medical services and technical levels of Chongqing Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital impressed the visitors.
The visitors also expressed their willingness to help with further cultural exchanges and business cooperation with China in the field of Chinese medicine, in the construction of the Belt and Road initiative.
In recent years, Chongqing Municipal Health Commission has made significant progress in promoting the development of TCM.
It has signed memorandums of cooperation in health and medicine industries with many countries involved in the Belt and Road initiative and established two international cooperation bases for TCM.
It also launched the Sino-Singapore Internet plus Traditional Chinese Medicine Continuing Education project.
By actively developing a TCM services trade, carrying out pilot programs and constructing a national TCM services export base, Chongqing Municipal Health Commission has highlighted local TCM on an international stage and raised its profile.
