Xinqiao Hospital is the second affiliated hospital of the Army Medical University. It was founded in 1944 and was renamed the Second Affiliated Hospital of the Army Medical University in 2017. It is now a large-scale teaching hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, medical service and military services. It is among the first 3A hospitals in the country and the first foreign-related hospitals in Chongqing.
The hospital has 2,860 beds, including 301 internationally-class intensive care beds, and 55 modern laminar flow operation rooms.
The number of annual outpatient and emergency visits is 2.27 million, the number of patients admitted to the hospital is 116,000 and the number of operations performed is 70,000, all ranking high among top 3A hospitals in China. The patients are from 33 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions including Hong Kong and Taiwan. Foreign patients account for 34 percent, the diagnosis accordance rate for admission and discharge is 99.5 percent, and 98.97 percent of the patients are cured.
It is the earliest to build specialties of respiratory medicine, cardiothoracic surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, oncology, etc., to implement special techniques such as cardiothoracic surgery and thyroid surgery, and to carry out special projects such as ARDS, acid-base imbalance, organ protection treatment.
The hospital has outstanding talents represented by the outstanding young and middle-aged experts with prominent contribution to China, top 10 outstanding young people, winners of the first Chinese Physician Prize, professors included in Chia’s Changjiang Scholars Program, and winners of the National Youth Science and Technology Award.

The hospital is rated as an innovation pilot zone for comprehensive education reform by Chongqing. It has developed the nation's first sanitary train, and the orthopedic surgery robot with complete intellectual property rights it developed was included in China's top 10 technology news in 2010.
The hospital has been awarded as the "national model of supporting the government and the people", the national advanced group for earthquake relief, the national designated unit for basic medical insurance, the advanced unit in medical ethics and culture, a national baby-friendly hospital, an advanced unit for medicinal materials management in the whole army, and a green hospital of the whole army.
